Insert Caption: Hellboy 2

Filed under: Fandom, Contests, Insert Caption

Welcome back to another funtastic, Americana edition of Insert Caption -- the game where you don't need fireworks to blow our minds. Last week we asked you to step up to the mic with some dope captions for a photo from The Wackness. Congrats to Kurt P., who can now escape the summer heat and chill out with a new portable DVD player. We're jealous. We might stalk you Kurt. Be ready.

1. "Young couple seeks father figure, must have Hawaiian shirt, facial hair, and soft focus." -- Kurt P.

This week we're celebrating our independence with a big, bad red dude named Hellboy. That's right! Guillermo del Toro, Hellboy and all his freak-ish friends are back to get their fight on in Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and the winners behind our three favorite captions based on the photo below will slip away with one Hellboy 2 t-shirt, one Hellboy 2 hat, one Hellboy 2 belt with buckle and one official Hellboy 2 poster. It's hot as hell outside, and come July 11 (when Hellboy 2 hits theaters), it'll get even hotter. Sound off critters!

Insert Caption: The Wackness

Filed under: Comedy, Drama, Independent, Sony Classics, Fandom, Contests, Insert Caption

Welcome to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game that's so much more dope than it is wacked. Last week, we asked you to bend down, lean forward and give us your best captions for a photo from The Love Guru. I don't know if you all brought in your own Caption Gurus (or if there was some other mystical power at work), but we received some of the most awesomest captions yet. Good job!

1. "This is hard to say, but the reason I called the four of you in to my office is to let you know that you are being downsized." -- Anthony G.

2. "We're sorry, we thought this was a shrink's office." -- Kurt P.

3. "Honey, I shrunk the agent." -- Suraj C.

This week, you're gonna have to bring out those mad skillz for a movie that's hotter than a McSkillet, ya dig? (What does that even mean?) Yup, we're shellin' out some lovin' for a little indie called The Wackness, featuring mad rhymes, dope flava ... Josh Peck, Olivia Thirlby, Famke Janssen and Ben Kingsley. Holla! But check it: One grand prize winner will take away a ridiculous Sony DVP-FX820 portable DVD player. Word. Seriously, though, The Wackness is a blast -- great soundtrack, fun movie, take your friends, the whole nine. Flick hits theaters on July 3. Sound off punks!

Insert Caption: The Love Guru

Filed under: Fandom, Contests, Insert Caption

Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game where you don't have to be a guru in order to win fabulous movie-related prizes. Last week, we asked you to point, laugh and get your caption on with a photo of two heads (belonging to Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway) from the film Get Smart. And that you did! Congrats go out to David R. for turning us on and off in the same sentence.

1. "That better be your shoe-phone, Max." -- David R.

2. "Um, I think we are just about in over our heads." -- Cherlyn

3. "I told you the Marie Antoinette spa treatment was a bad idea!!" -- Tim

This week, we're searching for a little love (and advice) from Guru Pitka (Mike Myers) in The Love Guru. Our old friend returns to live-action comedy with this flick about a self-help guru who travels from India to the states to help a star hockey player whose wife left him for a rival athlete. Sound familiar? Have you found yourself in a similar romantic squabble as of late? And are you seeking advice from all the wrong people (like that guy with the wooden leg who keeps asking to square off against you in a game of naked Twister)? Well, look no further my fellow caption-ers, because the three winners from this week will prance away with one The Love Guru Guru Pitka magic 8- ball action figure (pictured right, click to enlarge). This way, next time trouble comes knocking at your heart, you'll have your own personal guru to help steer you in the right direction. Sound off below ...

Paulo Coelho Gets Crafty with Film Adaptations

Filed under: Drama, Fandom, DIY/Filmmaking, Contests

Although Paulo Coelho is one of the world's most translated living authors, his work hasn't exactly littered the big screen. This isn't due to a lack of interest, but rather the writer's reluctance to allow his work to be adapted into film. However, in the wake of projects like the Sarah Michelle Gellar-led Veronika Decides to Die and Eleven Minutes, he's taking on an adaptation his way.

Variety reports that Coelho's spearheading a project to adapt his book, The Witch of Portobello. But he's not looking to sell it to a big studio, or whip up a run-of-the-mill indie production. Instead, he wants to create a fan-made film mash-up.

Insert Caption: Get Smart

Filed under: Fandom, Contests, Insert Caption

Welcome to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game we've heard actually gets you smarter-er! Last week, we asked you to whip up a little somethin' somethin' for a photo from the new flick Kung Fu Panda. And that you did! Congrats to Tommy L. for reminding us that the game Duck Duck Goose amongst a group of animated Kung Fu fanatics might not be the best idea.

1. "I don't think we should play Duck Duck Goose. It just ... doesn't feel right." -- Tommy L.

2. "So ... these pants do make me look fat, then." -- Mike Z.

3. "Panda, this is an intervention. You're killing yourself with food!" -- Brian

This week, we're calling in all our best agents for a very special Insert Caption for the movie Get Smart (in theaters June 20). Dun dun dun! Starring Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway, we're looking at a big-screen remake of the popular '60s television series about two agents (one clumsy, one competent) who must battle the evil forces of KAOS in order to save the world. And for your part, three winners will take home one fingerprint kit, one globe beach ball, one Get Smart mug, one pair of binoculars, one spinner key ring, one Get Smart baseball cap, one Get Smart journal and one push button. Think you have what it takes make us laugh? Well then, Agent Caption-er, sound off below ...

Win a Chance to See 'Full Grown Men'

Filed under: Comedy, Independent, Fandom, Exhibition, Contests

I've no idea how I never noticed this during my random searches on IMDb, but there's a new indie film coming out that sounds like it could be a lot of fun; it has a great cast that makes things even better, and there's a contest to win tickets. The film in question is Full Grown Men, and Emerging Pictures' blog has thrown up a contest to win tickets to the film's New York City opening on June 25, with further contests to follow for San Francisco and Miami.

The film stars Matt McGrath (the spurned friend in The Anniversary Party) as a man who acts more like a kid than an adult. When his wife chastises him for being a playmate to his son rather than a father, he grabs his childhood friend (Judah Friedlander) and heads for their favorite theme park in Central Florida, where they're confronted with the incongruities between their past and present. But it's also got some sweet cameos -- Alan Cumming as a "disgruntled ex-theme park employee," Amy Sedaris as "a horny bartending clown," and Debbie Harry as "a delusional mermaid."

As for the contest ... this is all about boys trapped in men's bodies, so you just have to do a little writing. "If you're in love with an overgrown boy, or it's your own inner child that's gone wild -- or if you're just noticing Peter Pandemonium everywhere" you can comment in the EP blog and grab your chance to win. And if you are in NYC, San Fran, or Miami and check it out, let us know what you thought of the movie.

Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the online game that karate chops all its competition in half. Last week, we asked you to give us captions for a photo from the new creepy flick The Strangers. Serious props go out to Kristi S. for cracking us up with one of my personal favorite winning captions of 2008 so far. (And so what if I wound up Netflix-ing Armageddon the other night because of Kristi? Is that so wrong?)

1. "Hurry up!!! Armageddon is on TBS tonight and I don't wanna miss a thing!!!" -- Kristi S.

2. "Liv: Take The Deal!
Scott: No Deal! No. Deal." -- Sam S.

3. "Mr. Tyler, put down the ax and allow me to explain. SHE was the one hitting on ME." -- Dodd A.

I don't know if you're aware, but this week everybody (including we here at Cinematical) was kung fu fighting. Oh yes, those cats were fast as lightening. In fact, it was a little bit frightening. And ... I'll stop now. Kung Fu Panda has finally arrived in theaters, and we're celebrating by handing one grand prize winner one cast-signed Kung Fu Panda movie poster, one Kung Fu Panda "I Can Find It" book, one stuffed "Po" plush, one pack of Kung Fu Panda Hubba Bubba gum, one Kung Fu Panda McDonalds Happy Meal toy, one Kung Fu Panda "Tigress" pez dispenser and one HP/Kung Fu Panda activity CD. Phew. Get all that? Additionally, two runners-up will get the cast-signed movie poster. Sound off below kung fu caption-ers!

Insert Caption: The Strangers

Filed under: Fandom, Contests, Insert Caption, Hold the 'Fone

Welcome back to another fantastic edition of Insert Caption -- the game where you're totally allowed (and encouraged) to talk to strangers. Last week, we were hangin' with our girls from Sex and the City, and asking you to send in your best captions for a photo of Carrie typing away with some ... thing wrapped around her shoulders. Needless to say, creativity was a flowin'.

1. "Her transformation from socialite to yeti nearly complete, Carrie writes her final, twisted column." -- Jay J.

2. "Note to self: New line of sweaters from Jimmy Choo - not so fabulous." -- Chia S.

3. "I knew I would do anything for fashion, but drugging and shaving a Wampa might be over the line. I should have shaved an Ewok instead ... they're softer." -- Laura E.

This week, we're throwing on our random, creepy masks and showing up to your house unannounced with a photo from the new freaky flick The Strangers. Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler play a couple who are harassed (in more ways than one) by three complete strangers who pop up at their front door in the middle of the night. And if you don't leave a funny caption for this one ... well, let's not wait to see what happens. (I'm so not intimidating.) The winners of our three favorite captions will sneak away with one cast-signed The Strangers movie poster. You know what comes next ...

Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game Carrie Bradshaw plays whenever she's all dressed up with nowhere to go (see photo below). Last week, we asked you folks to bring us back some funny captions from your trip to Narnia for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, and that you did! Congrats to Anthony G. for his inspired caption below ...

1. "According to Mapquest this is where the renaissance fair should be." -- Anthony G.

2. "The interns on Dr. Moreau's island weren't quite sure what they got themselves into after putting on their new uniforms" -- Josh B.

3. "Introducing the cast of High School Musical: Braveheart Edition." -- Kirby H.

This week, we all have sex on the mind -- and I wonder why? Could it be because the gals from Sex and the City are about to make their big-screen debut? I think mayyybe ... Since Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda are four very special ladies in our lives, we decided to give away some very special gifts to those who provide us with the best captions for the photo below. That being said, one grand prize winner will receive one Sex and the City Collector's Edition DVD set with all six seasons of the hit show, two different Sex and the City movie posters and one Sex and the City soundtrack. Meanwhile, two runners up will receive the two different posters and the Sex and the City soundtrack (info on the soundtrack after the jump). Not bad, huh? The perfect foreplay before Sex and the City arrives in theaters on May 30. Sound off below ...

Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game everyone in Narnia was talking about a thousand years from now! Last week we asked you to dust off that pimpin' fedora and come up with a caption for a photo from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull -- which, for those who've been counting down the seconds (looks away in shame!), hits theaters in less than one week! Congrats to Anthony T. (who won the first three Indiana Jones films on DVD) for a caption that was, well, a real hidden treasure.

1. "We've finally made it to the tomb of the ... Goddammit Nicolas Cage!!!! What are you doing here?!!" -- Anthony T.

2. "Unbeknownst to the two adventurers, the shadowy figure behind them had just enough silly string left to seal their doom..." Sean A.

3. "Geez, Dr. Jones. I know I told you I'd help you clean out your attic, but I'm going to need more than $10 an hour..." -- Pete M.

This week we're all returning to the land of Narnia in honor of the highly-anticipated sequel to The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. We're not asking you to take out the villains and save a prince, mind you, but we would like a funny caption for the photo below. In return, you see, three lucky winners will be awarded one Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian cast-signed poster, one Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian soundtrack and one Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian illustrated "making of" book. You know the drill ...
